You may know that I do not live in Sydney anymore, but I wanted to share the incredibly relaxed, and peaceful lifestyle that this astounding city has to offer. And no, it does not include the stereo-typical Australian lifestyle of riding a kangaroo to school, putting another shrimp on the “barbie”, or eating vegemite for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The land “Down-Under” may be referred to dry, red deserts with scorching temperatures and terrifying crocodiles and sharks - but in reality, Australia is so much more.
The area in Sydney where I lived was Tamarama Beach. It is a quiet area, filled with greenery and it is minutes from the crystal-clear waters. There is an adorable local breakfast and lunch café down the road called M Deli Cafe (which sells amazing banana bread and bircher muesli), and around the corner on Bondi Road you have access to all of the health-food stores, supermarkets, and small design shops. This is where I got my favourite chocolate-strawberries and fresh smoothies and juices from..mmmm! Oh, and did I forget to mention the mouth-watering strawberry-caramel macaroons that are sometimes given for free with your morning coffee/hot chocolate from Adriano Zumbo in Clovelly? *insert hungry face emoji here*
In Sydney, the city wakes up early. It could be a cozy Sunday morning, but if you are out of the house at around 6am, you see joggers coming in from all directions, swimmers and surfers diving into the royal-blue ocean, all admiring the orange and pink toned haze above the horizon. You can certainly say that Sydney is an active city!
Weekends are usually spent all day at the sun drenched, glistening beaches. What I loved to do is wake up at around 6am, pack breakfast and hurry to the beach to watch the scarlet sunrise, while enjoying a egg and bacon roll (one of my favourite breakfasts)!.
On a Saturday and Sunday, the beaches are usually VERY packed. My suggestion for you if you are visiting Sydney any time soon is never to go to Bondi beach on the weekends (unless very early in the morning) - in summer, around 40,000 people flock to the beach at this time of the week! The most beautiful beaches that I recommend in Sydney are Nielsen Park in Vaucluse, Tamarama Beach, Bronte, or Palm Beach.
Oh and some breakfast foods that you HAVE to try are- egg & bacon rolls, banana bread, and avocado with scrambled eggs! Oh and I cannot forget the heavenly, scrumptious, bacon and banana pancakes which are delicious at a local café called Brown Sugar, which is just around the corner from Bondi Beach. I cannot even begin to explain how much I love their pancakes! Wow, ok, getting a bit carried away about pancakes! *secretly wants to write an essay about bacon and banana pancakes*.
For dinner, it is typical to gather up family and friends, hit the beach once again, have a barbecue or a picnic, while watching the sun go down. Around the beaches there are usually some grass areas, with barbecues and benches!
From it’s unique natural beauty, to the friendly and kind people, Sydney is truly a place that I can always call home!
I hope that you are having a great day,
Thank you, Marie xox <3
